In 2019 I was the realtime supervisor for the Fortnite World Cup and Marshmello suprise party.
I spent a couple of weeks before the event creating assets inspired by existing Fortnite props, vehicles, and characters. Many of these had to be rebuilt and optimized for real-time usage. During the event, these assets were seamlessly integrated into the physical stadium, enhancing the experience for the online audience. Spectators at the event were unaware of these digital elements, but online viewers witnessed classic Fortnite characters flying around the stadium, floating stat and scoreboards, and giant animated Fortnite characters. The highlight of the event was a surprise concert by Marshmello.
From the n-cam case study of the event;
'Replays of the game action from the tournament were extracted from the engine and, using a portal effect, were rendered within the LED wall in the arena. For the broadcast they were simultaneously pulled out from the background and into the foreground, in front of the talent, to create a memorable visual effect that truly enhanced the viewing experience'
